Trap Skill Demo MAX Guide

What “Trap is MAX from the start” actually means

In the late Demo climb, developer notes for v0.99 said that for that version only, the Trap skill was set to MAX from the start. The same note framed the build as a bug-hunt toward Demo completion, with later work pointed at lower-level areas and an official title screen. This page treats that sentence as a Demo planning fact, not as a promise that every later Steam string still prints “Trap MAX.”

Alien Invasyndrome (Steam 4603980, Mozu Field / 百舌鳥, Shady Corner Games) is an adult 18+ stealth Demo on Atlas. Full release TBA. As of 21 August 2026, community trackers still list Demo 1.0 hotfix (5 May 2026) as the public numbered checkpoint. Open your skill screen and read the live Trap row. If it is maxed, this page tells you how to spend around the gift. If it is not, trust the screen and Changelog.

Trap is not a stealth skip

A maxed Trap node does not delete sight cones, desk softlocks, or the ~1 minute detection hide. Players who treat Trap as “I can sprint Kitchen” donate the same hide tax as everyone else. Learn How to Play, How to Hide, and Stealth and Detection before you spend a single extra point “to support Trap.”

Trap also does not knock down Security Soldiers. Soldiers want a charge gap. Mixing Trap fidgets with a bounced charge is how Security doorways become highlight-reel failures.

How to play around a starting MAX

If your install still shows Trap maxed at minute zero:

  1. Do not buy Trap again. Demo menus have shown haunted “learn again” copy. Ignore it (Skill Tree).
  2. Spend first points on survival consistency — Middle-deck crossings and nest commute, not vanity STR. Sequence: Early Build.
  3. Keep nest honest. Some charge-style tools were historically nest-gated even when Trap was free. Bank colony progress via How to Nest before you assume every tool spawned with Trap.
  4. Write the rest of the tree as if Trap were already paid. Your remaining INT/STR budget is for setup versus commit identity (INT vs STR, Control and Hypnosis).
  5. Re-check after patches. The v0.99 note said “this version only.” A later hotfix can lock, rename, or un-max Trap without a press release.

When Trap is useful (honest cases)

Use Trap-style tools when they reduce coin-flip peeks, not when they replace scouting:

  • Holding a connector while a Kitchen patrol turns (Kitchen Route)
  • Buying one extra second on a Clinic approach you already scouted (Clinic Doctor Route)
  • Discouraging a corridor re-entry while you abort to a desk

Do not use Trap to “start” a capture on alert. Capture still needs a quiet window (How to Capture). Do not drop Trap on a Security midline and then swap Route A for Route B (Security Routes).

Demo-complete framing around the note

The same v0.99 paragraph said that once bugs were nearly gone, the Demo would be treated as complete, then the team would prepare store announcement work. That is process language, not a full-release date. Lower decks and an official title screen were called out as next construction, not as rooms you should expect behind the current boss door. For what the Demo actually ends on, read Demo Ending and Demo Scope. Title affordances that already exist: Title Screen.

Wishlist the TBA full game on Steam if the larva loop clicked. Do not invent Trap tiers for a ship that is not in your build.

Practice protocol

  1. Open the skill screen. Note Trap’s live rank. Screenshot it if you file a bug.
  2. Run a Kitchen silence loop without spending new points.
  3. If Trap is maxed, add one Priority A survival node only (Early Build).
  4. Repeat the same loop. If detections did not drop, Trap was not your missing piece — map literacy was (Atlas Overview).
  5. Only then contest a Security scout, not a boss attempt.

Trap MAX is a Demo gift with an expiration clause. Spend around it, verify the live row, and keep stealth as the real tree.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common Alien Invasyndrome questions.

Is Trap still MAX at the start in Demo 1.0?

v0.99 notes said Trap was MAX for that version only. Confirm the live skill row on your Steam install. This wiki will not invent a rank you cannot see.

Should I spend early points on Trap anyway?

If it is already MAX, no. Buy Middle-deck survival and nest commute next. See Early Build.

Does Trap replace stealth or charge?

No. Detection still costs about a minute. Security soldiers still want a charge gap. Trap is a tool, not a skip.

Why does the menu say I can learn Trap again?

Demo WIP copy. Ignore duplicate-learn noise unless a patch note confirms a real respec. See Skill Tree.

Did the Trap note mean the full game is done?

No. It was Demo-completion and store-prep language. Full release remains TBA — see Demo Ending and Steam Status.
