How to Hide in Alien Invasyndrome
Desk cover, detection waits, and safe stand-ups on Atlas
Why hiding is the Demo’s real combat
Alien Invasyndrome is an adult stealth-action Demo on the exploration vessel Atlas. You play a weak alien larva. Most failed hours are not “I forgot the boss combo.” They are players who treat desks as decoration, leave cover early, or confuse a detection wait with a true softlock. This page is the hide verb: when to dive, how long to stay, and how to stand up without donating another minute.
Developer Mozu Field / 百舌鳥, publisher Shady Corner Games, Steam app 4603980. Full release TBA. Public checkpoint framing through 16 August 2026 still centers on Demo 1.0 hotfix (5 May 2026). Adult 18+; this guide stays mechanical.
Hiding under desks entered the Demo conversation as an explicit addition in the mid-preview climb (storage / corridor / camera era). Later builds kept the furniture fantasy. Pair this page with Stealth and Detection, Vents and Cover, and Softlock Fixes. Inputs: Stealth Actions.
The three hide states
Treat every furniture dive as one of three states. Naming the state stops panic mashing.
- Scout hide — you were not spotted. You are waiting out an idle turn or a camera sweep. Leave as soon as the cone faces away.
- Detection hide — a crew member or soldier clearly saw you. Plan on about one minute under cover before the run feels usable again. Practice the wait with Detection Timer.
- Stuck hide — movement, interact, or the camera refuses to return you to the floor. That is a softlock class, not a stealth tax. Open Softlock Fixes instead of waiting a second minute.
If you cannot tell 2 from 3 after a full minute, assume stuck and follow the softlock page. Do not invent a fourth state called “maybe if I mash charge.”
How to enter a desk
- Pre-select the desk before you cross the open tile. Kitchen, Clinic, Laboratory, and Security all punish last-second dives.
- Confirm an exit heading — the tile you will stand onto, not the void under the furniture.
- Commit in one burst. Stopping mid-floor to “think about hiding” is how cones catch you.
- Once under, stop moving. Wiggle inputs are how some Demo builds glue you to collision.
Room context for which desks are worth learning: Key Rooms and Storage and Corridors. Kitchen timing: Kitchen Route. Clinic furniture is ruder: Clinic Doctor Route.
How long to stay
Scout hide: one idle cycle. Peek, then leave.
Detection hide: budget a full ~60 seconds. Leaving at 20 seconds because “it feels quiet” is the most common Demo wipe. The larva is not a fighter; the hide minute is the reset button.
After a soldier flamethrower or camera ping: still a detection hide unless the UI is frozen. Soldiers and cameras are covered on Security Soldiers and Security Room. Do not stand up into a flame cone to “get it over with.”
How to stand up
- Peek first. Blind stand-ups into a facing cone restart the minute.
- Stand onto the pre-chosen exit tile, then move to the next shadow or vent — do not linger in the desk’s doorway.
- If charge / pounce is bound near hide, do not tap it on the way out. Charge-from-hide quirks are a known Demo complaint; see Charge and Pounce.
- After a clean stand-up, decide: nest bank, room abort, or one more scout. Do not chain a capture from a desk you just survived.
Capture commits belong on How to Capture. Nest banking belongs on How to Nest. Hiding is the bridge between those verbs, not a substitute for them.
Desks versus vents and shadows
Desks are the panic button. Vents and wall shadows are the travel buttons. If every crossing starts with a desk, you are treating Atlas like a series of coffins. Learn one vent or wall line per landmark room on Vents and Cover, then keep desks for detections and soldier gaps.
Storage rooms and Clinic / Cafeteria corridors often have fewer “pretty” desks and more awkward furniture. Scout those connectors on Storage and Corridors before you treat them as free commute.
Game-over art versus nest state
Older developer notes said a game-over illustration was meant to appear before you had created a nest, then later builds showed it more often. Treat that as UI noise, not a hide rule. Your mechanical rule stays: hide, wait, exit, bank nest. If a death dump sends you to title, use Title Screen key 1 recall when your build offers it, then Save and Progress.
Practice drill (12 minutes)
- Kitchen doorway: two scout hides, zero detections.
- Intentional spot: one full detection hide with the timer running.
- Stand-up peek into an empty cone; abort if anyone faces you.
- Repeat once in a Clinic-adjacent corridor if nest income is healthy.
- Stop. Do not “reward” a good hide drill with a Security push.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common Alien Invasyndrome questions.
How long should I hide after being spotted in Alien Invasyndrome?
Plan on about one minute for a clear detection. Use the Detection Timer and do not leave early because the room “feels” quiet.
Is a desk hide the same as a softlock?
No. A detection hide is an intended wait. A softlock is when you cannot exit. See Softlock Fixes if movement or the camera is stuck after a full minute.
When were desk hides added?
Developer notes from the mid-preview climb list hiding under desks alongside Storage, corridors, and cameras. Demo 1.0 hotfix-era builds still use that furniture fantasy.
Should I hide under a desk to beat Security soldiers?
Use desks to wait out flame cones, then charge only from a gap. Full soldier rules: Security Soldiers and Charge and Pounce.
Can I capture someone from under a desk during alert?
Do not plan on it. Alert windows are for hiding and retreat. Capture commits need a clean, quiet gap — see How to Capture.
