Alien Invasyndrome Vents and Cover on Atlas
Cover literacy beyond panic desks — approach lines that survive open crossings
Content note
Alien Invasyndrome is an adult stealth-action Demo (Steam app 4603980). This guide covers cover choice, approach lines, and recovery only. Brief 18+ notice: mature themes exist; the page stays mechanical.
Developer Mozu Field / 百舌鳥, publisher Shady Corner Games. Full release TBA. Demo checkpoint framing: Demo 1.0 hotfix (May 2026) — see Changelog.
Why cover literacy matters
Desk softlocks save runs. They also create a bad habit: players dive under the nearest furniture without a leave plan, then eat a second spotting on exit. Cover literacy means choosing entry cover, commit cover, and exit cover as a chain — not as a panic button.
Core stealth rules still apply: Stealth and Detection. Softlock recovery: Softlock Fixes. Inputs: Stealth Actions, Keyboard Controls.
Cover types (practical taxonomy)
Desk / furniture softlocks
Best panic tool in Kitchen, Clinic, and Cafeteria edges. Strengths: breaks line of sight fast. Weaknesses: exit blindness, true stuck states in some builds, and wasted minutes if you enter without a patrol read.
Corners and door frames
Best scouting tools. Strengths: you can peek idle turns without committing an interact. Weaknesses: lingering too long invites a returning cone from the opposite door.
Vertical / deck transitions
Best when a room state is ruined. Strengths: resets pressure if the layout allows. Weaknesses: learning cost — wrong deck choice strands you in louder traffic. Map context: Decks, Atlas Overview.
Vent-adjacent and utility lines
Treat vents and utility corridors as approach lanes, not magic invulnerability. Use them to shorten open crossings and to stage a desk dive. If a vent line dumps you into a watched tile, it was a bad stage, not a broken mechanic.
Open floor (anti-cover)
Cafeteria centers, Lab mid-benches, Kitchen islands — these are tax zones. Cross in one burst after a far-edge idle, or do not cross.
The three-cover rule
Before any nest, capture, or Clinic first-meeting:
- Scout cover — where you watch one full patrol cycle.
- Commit cover — where you hide if the interact goes wrong.
- Exit cover — where you break line of sight after success.
If you cannot name all three, delay the commit. This rule powers How to Nest, How to Capture, and Clinic Doctor Route.
Room-by-room cover notes
Kitchen
Counter corners beat open floor. Softlock under prep-adjacent desks after a spot. Practice abort drills here before Laboratory greed (Kitchen Route).
Clinic
Furniture clusters are dense — good for softlock, bad for panic sprinting. Pre-select the desk before Doctor first-meeting interact (Doctor). Doorway frames are better scout cover than standing in the bay center.
Laboratory
Long sightlines. Edge hug. Mid-bench “shortcuts” are how INT players still get spotted. Prefer door-frame scouts and far-door clears before any nest or capture.
Cafeteria
Seating edges and service choke points beat center tables. Cross during far-table idle moments only. If spotted mid-floor, prioritize the nearest real cover over heroic diagonal sprints.
Security Room
Cover is route-dependent. Commit to Route A or B before improvising vent fantasies. Cameras act like moving patrols — wait for the far edge, then burst. Guides: Security Room, Security Routes.
Crew tendencies: Crew. Landmark names: Key Rooms.
Detection minute and cover exits
After a clear spotting, plan on about one minute in hide. The failure mode is not “hiding too long” — it is leaving early because the minute “felt done.” Use Detection Timer until exits are boring.
Exit checklist:
- Confirm the nearest crew is committed away from your tile.
- Leave toward exit cover, not toward the original objective if heat is high.
- Re-scout before restarting nest or capture.
- If leave-hide does nothing, escalate to Softlock Fixes.
Cover drills (Demo)
- Corner hold: Kitchen or Cafeteria — stay unseen for one full patrol cycle, leave without interacting.
- Desk cycle: Clinic — enter softlock, wait a full simulated penalty, exit cleanly.
- Open crossing: Laboratory edge — cross once after far-door clear; abort if the far door is ambiguous.
- Three-cover naming: before Clinic Doctor Route, speak scout / commit / exit tiles out loud.
Skills and cover
INT-leaning early investments usually protect quieter approaches and shorter exposed times. STR does not invent cover where the room has none. Build pages: Early Build, Skill Tree, Skill Planner.
Common mistakes
- Desk diving with no exit cover assigned.
- Nesting or capturing from open floor because the prompt appeared.
- Using the same entry and exit vector every time.
- Treating vents as safe rooms instead of approach lanes.
- Ignoring Locale Emulator when prompts that exit hide are unreadable (Locale Emulator).
- Pushing Security before Kitchen / Clinic cover drills feel automatic.
Session plan
Warm-up: Keyboard + stealth verbs (Keyboard Controls, Stealth Actions).
Drill: corner hold + desk cycle.
Apply: one nest bank with three-cover naming (Nest Checklist).
Stretch: Clinic doorway scouts without commits.
Stop rule: two bad exits → review this page and Softlock Fixes, not boss attempts.
Demo scope and support
Cover guidance targets the Steam Demo slice on Atlas. Wishlist TBA on Steam. Official Demo path: Demo Access. Store facts: Steam Status. Hardware: System Requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common Alien Invasyndrome questions.
Are vents safe zones in Alien Invasyndrome?
Treat vents and utility lines as approach lanes, not invulnerability. Stage a desk or corner exit; do not assume a vent dump is unseen.
What is the three-cover rule?
Name scout cover, commit cover, and exit cover before nest, capture, or Clinic first-meeting interacts. If you cannot name all three, delay.
When should I softlock under a desk?
When a patrol is about to re-check your open tile, or after a spotting during the ~1 minute hide window. See Stealth and Detection.
What if I cannot leave desk cover?
Wait out detection first. If the UI is truly stuck, use Softlock Fixes.
Which room is best for cover drills?
Kitchen for short loops, Clinic for dense furniture practice. Save Security Room improvisation for after cover exits feel automatic.
