Alien Invasyndrome Multiplayer and Co-op — Single-Player Reality

What Steam Family Sharing does and does not do for Atlas

Alien Invasyndrome Multiplayer and Co-op FAQ

The short answer

Alien Invasyndrome is a single-player experience on Steam. There is no co-op, no PvP, no split-screen, and no LAN mode in the public Demo or in the announced TBA full game. Steam’s Family Sharing feature lets a second Steam account play your library entry on their own machine with their own save — but that is a Steam platform feature, not two players in the same Atlas.

Developer Mozu Field / 百舌鳥, publisher Shady Corner Games. Wishlist Steam app 4603980. Full release TBA. Adult 18+; multiplayer talk stays mechanical. Hub: Controls Hub.

If you came here hoping for a “play with friends” mode: it does not exist. If you want to share the Demo with a friend on the same Steam account, Family Sharing is the supported path.

What Steam lists for Alien Invasyndrome

  • Categories: Single-player only.
  • Family Sharing: Yes — this is Steam’s optional feature flag, not a game-mode flag.
  • Co-op: No.
  • PvP / online multiplayer: No.
  • Cross-platform multiplayer: Not applicable (Windows only — see Platforms & APK).

Players who see “online co-op” claims in third-party blog posts are looking at wish-casting, not Steam facts. Verify on the live store page: Steam Status.

Family Sharing — what it actually does

Family Sharing is Steam’s mechanism that allows a second account on a different machine to access your library:

  1. You enable Family Sharing on your Steam account (Settings → Family).
  2. A second account on another PC signs into their own Steam client.
  3. They see your Alien Invasyndrome library entry and can install / launch it.
  4. They play their own Demo session on their own save.
  5. They do not appear in your game, and you do not appear in theirs.

There is no shared Atlas. There is no joint nest. There is no coordinated Security push. There are two separate single-player experiences, each on their own machine.

If you were hoping for “we both play on the same Atlas and meet up in the lab” — that is not a feature of this game or of Steam Family Sharing.

Why a game with stealth-action design does not need co-op

The Demo’s design fits single-player:

  • One larva fantasy. Splitting the protagonist across two players changes the weak-start identity — see Alien Larva.
  • Detection minute is per-character. The ~1 minute hide penalty is one player’s tax, not a shared downtime — Stealth and Detection.
  • Nest economy is per-player. Banked nest, INT/STR spends, and capture commits are a single-player loop — How to Nest, How to Capture.
  • Doctor event pacing is per-player. The Clinic encounter assumes one larva — Clinic Doctor Route, Doctor.

A co-op mode would change every one of these. Mozu Field / Shady Corner Games have not announced one. Treat it as not happening until Steam shows otherwise.

Why third-party “co-op mods” are not worth installing

Search results sometimes suggest unofficial mods that “add co-op” to single-player games. For Alien Invasyndrome:

  1. They are not supported. Steam will detect modified builds.
  2. They will corrupt your saves. Save files cross-modified-builds can fail to load.
  3. They often ship malware in installer wrappers.
  4. They are not documented on this wiki.

If you want to play with a friend, use Steam Family Sharing on two PCs. Each player learns the systems on their own install — that is the supported path.

How to share the Demo with a friend (the legitimate way)

Practical steps:

  1. Confirm your PC clears System Requirements.
  2. Install the Demo from the official Steam page (Demo Access).
  3. Open Steam → Settings → Family → enable Family Sharing with the friend’s Steam account.
  4. From the friend’s PC, sign in to their Steam client and launch the Demo.
  5. They play their own save; you keep yours.

If your friend lives far away, Steam Remote Play Together is the next-best option — though Alien Invasyndrome’s input latency needs make it a poor fit for fast capture commits. Treat as last resort.

Cross-save between accounts — not supported

A common question is “can we share a single Demo save across two Steam accounts”. The answer is no:

  • Steam’s userdata container is per-account.
  • Copying saves between accounts can corrupt them.
  • Steam Cloud sync is per-account; you cannot force a friend to receive your saves.

Steam Deck and Steam Family Sharing

Steam Deck supports Family Sharing through SteamOS. The Deck’s Steam client sees the shared library and can install / launch the Demo. Performance is acceptable on Deck-class hardware. Setup notes: Performance & Settings, System Requirements.

If the developer adds co-op later

Honest framing:

  • Steam lists the full game as Coming soon / TBA.
  • Mozu Field / Shady Corner Games have not announced co-op in any public channel.
  • If a future Steam update adds multiplayer categories, Changelog will note it.
  • Until then, plan around single-player.

We will not invent roadmap items. Roadmap & Release Plans is the canonical source for what is plausibly next.

What about split-screen, LAN, or online matchmaking?

  • Split-screen: Not announced.
  • LAN: Not announced. The Demo is Windows-only.
  • Online matchmaking: Not announced.
  • Cross-play: Not announced. Not applicable for a Windows-only build.

These are not features today. They are not in the published Demo, and they are not in the announced full game.
